Fungal Nail
Many people struggle with fungal nail infections, this can be very frustrating and embarrassing with treatments taking far too long. Here at ReWork Skin Clinic we can help you. We have a medical grade Laser from Lynton that is proven to give you the best clinical results.
Laser treatment is a possible option if you have a fungal nail infection. The laser emits high doses of light energy, which are used to destroy the fungus.
The Nd:YAG laser treatment is designed to tackle the growth of fungus on toenails, as well as fingernails. Individual results vary and additional sessions may be required.

How it works
The laser light is absorbed by the water in the skin underneath and around the nail creating heat. This heat helps to destroy the dermatophytes and eliminate the fungal infection. The laser applicator is placed on the nail and a short pulse of light is released. The entire nail bed and nail matrix is then treated in this way.

This system eradicates the fungus. It will require repeat visits for treatment over a 3-month period. The treatment is typically 5-15 minutes. As the nail grows slowly, it can take several months for the new nail to replace the old infected nail.
Clinical studies show that the laser kills toenail fungus and promotes clear nail growth with a single treatment in better than 80% of cases. The laser treatment is safe, effective, and most patients improve usually after their first treatment.
Frequently asked questions
How does the treatment feel?
A degree of heating and some discomfort is felt during treatment. However, with our Cryo-cooling system we can reduce this to make the treatment as comfortable as possible.

Is there any aftercare?
For a successful treatment, the chain of infection must also be broken. To help to do this, the home care advice must be followed carefully. This includes bringing a clean pair of socks to every treatment, application of Dactarin or another anti-fungal cream, wear open toe shoes without socks whilst treatment continues. A full home care advice sheet can be obtained from us after your treatment.

When can I paint my nails or have a pedicure?
It is important to remove all nail polish and nail decorations the day before your treatment. Following the treatment, polish can be applied immediately.

How many treatments are necessary?
Treatments are carried out every 2 to 3 weeks. The number of treatments required varies, although typically 2-6 treatments are needed for optimum results. These results become apparent as the nail grows out. Due to the slow rate of growth of toenails it may take several months for the results to be seen.
